Gaming on the Go: BMW to integrate AirConsole mobile gaming platform in 2023

Toronto, Ontario – A new partnership between BMW and mobile gaming startup AirConsole represents a new foray for the automotive industry by bringing gaming to the passenger seat.

From next year, BMW owners will be able to access a library of mini-games from their vehicle’s center display via AirConsole’s on-the-go gaming platform.

If readers are familiar with the Jackbox series of board games, where players join the game on an external device using a room code, AirConsole essentially works the same way, but has its own line of platform games. and Nintendo-esque racing controlled via the player’s smartphone.

In Tuesday’s press release announcing the partnership, the BMW Group described the AirConsole as a “perfect fit” for BMW’s standard curved screen, and highlighted how quick and easy access to entertainment in vehicles affects the driver experience.

“With AirConsole, we will take advantage of innovative technologies combined with a wide variety of fun and multiplayer games. This will make every waiting situation inside the vehicle, such as charging, a pleasant one,” said Stephan Durach, Senior Vice President of Connected Business Development at BMW Group.

To avoid following in the footsteps of Tesla and its lukewarm venture into the world of mobile gaming, BMW would be wise to remind drivers when launching AirConsole that “mobile” gaming is more of a figure of speech in that sense, and games are for people who are parked, not potential multi-taskers.
