New crypto game project Calvaria finally looks set to help blockchain gaming go mainstream with pundits and analysts expecting the flagship game Duels of Eternity to be a major hit.

The project is currently in the early stages of its pre-sale and has so far raised over $1 million in just over a week as investors flock to enter as prices remain low.

In fact, the RIA native token is currently on sale for $0.02 in stage 3 of its presale, but will rise to $0.055 in the tenth and final stage – a 175% and 450% increase from the previous stage. ‘Step 1.

Calvaria will appeal to both traditional and casual gamers

Blockchain gaming holds vast potential for the future with the GameFi sector set to grow exponentially over the next decade.

However, while top games such as The Sandbox and Decentraland control the market well over $1 billion each and have had no trouble attracting investment – as well as partnerships with Adidas, Gucci, Ubisoft and Warner – they struggled to attract players.

According to DappRadar, The Sandbox and Decentraland only had 20,000 players combined for the entire month of October, while the top game Alien Worlds had 620,000 players.

Yet that’s nothing like the biggest Web2 games, with Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft and others attracting tens of millions of players every day.

Calvaria has identified two major issues that are preventing casual and traditional gamers from switching to blockchain gaming.

They developed a free-to-play (F2P) version of Duels of Eternity – a battle card strategy game – to respond to this.

The F2P version will have two main features designed to appeal to non-blockchain players.

The first problem is that most blockchain games require a huge outlay to even participate in the game, with players having to purchase expensive NFT characters or a large number of tokens to access them and creating a significant barrier to entry that immediately discourages the players.

Fortnite and Co may be monetized – players pay to upgrade features, weapons and skins – but anyone can play the full game for free.

The Duels of Eternity F2P mode will be free-to-play, and Calvaria hopes to attract players to the blockchain through the game itself and by having a visible tracker that shows players how much they could have won had they played the P2E version.

The second problem is a lack of technical knowledge, especially among young players, which Calvaria hopes to address by offering gamified educational modes, presented in the form of quests.

Not only will players learn blockchain technology, but they will earn rewards that can then be used in-game.

Rather than expecting new players to pay to be part of the ecosystem, Calvaria believes its game will be enough to attract players once they start playing.

Calvaria: Duels of Eternity

The game itself is a card battle strategy game, set in the afterlife, which sees players compete against each other using skill, timing, and knowledge.

Players align themselves with one of three warring factions, each with their own unique traits and strengths, and stack their deck in one-on-one matches over three turns.

In Duels of Eternity – which is fully 3D – players must select the correct cards, use them at the optimal time and use power-ups to win.

In addition to the main player versus player mode, the game also features a single-player campaign mode where players can earn cards and bonuses which can then be used in player versus player mode.

In P2E mode, players will be rewarded with the eRIA Token – one of two ecosystem tokens – which is tradable and can be used in the in-game store to upgrade cards and purchase other assets.

The cards will be NFTs which have value on their own and are fully tradable in the market.

Like many of the most popular games on the market, Calvaria also takes a seasonal approach to play and will regularly release game expansions, seasonal assets, and new tournaments.

Later in the roadmap, the project will develop an eSports branch as well as a virtual reality experience.
